Hold the top edge of your iPhone against the tag — that is where the NFC antenna sits, not the back or the centre. Keep it still for a second or two.

NFC tag reading needs an iPhone 7 or later. It does not work in the iOS Simulator at all. If your device is unsupported or NFC is unavailable, the scan screen will tell you so directly rather than failing silently.

A thick case, a metal surface behind the tag, or a MagSafe accessory can all block the read. Try lifting the item away from any metal.

A tag can hold one active passport at a time — that is what stops two people claiming the same item.

If it is your own tag, deleting that passport (or deleting your account) releases the tag so it can be registered again. If you have just bought an item second-hand, the previous owner needs to release it or transfer it to you.

Nothing is lost. Items that fail to sync stay on your device and are retried automatically the next time you push. The Sync tab shows the specific reason each one failed.

The most common causes are no network connection and an expired sign-in. Signing out and back in resolves the second.

Almost always a browser extension — password managers in particular. Dashlane, 1Password, LastPass and Bitwarden all inject themselves into the page, and that can interfere with the sign-in popup so it never finishes handing back to us. It can also make Apple treat every attempt as a new device, which is why you may keep getting a verification prompt on your phone that never leads anywhere.

Try a private or incognito window, where extensions are off by default. If that works, the extension is the cause — disable it for this site rather than everywhere.

There are two different codes, and they arrive one after the other.

The first comes from Apple or Google, on their own screen, confirming it is you. The second is from your authenticator app — the two-factor you set up on your VeroTag account. The one Apple sent will not work in the second box.

If the authenticator code is refused as expired, start the sign-in again; the challenge is only valid for a short window.

Tap Forgot password? on the sign-in screen and we will email you a reset link. For your privacy we always show the same confirmation message, whether or not an account exists for that address.

This was a bug in builds before July 2026 and is fixed. Photos were never actually deleted — the app had recorded a file location that iOS moves during an update.

Update to the latest version and the photo reappears on its own. If it does not, use the form at the bottom of this page.

In the app: Sync tab → tap your account row → Account → Delete account. You will be asked for your password to confirm.

This permanently removes your account, every passport you registered, their photos, and all of your private notes and valuations. It also releases your NFC tags so they can be registered again. It cannot be undone.

Not to capture. Scanning tags and recording items works fully offline, and everything stays on your device.

An account is only needed to sync — that is what registers a passport on the VeroTag platform, assigns its VT identifier, and creates the public page others can verify.

Yes, to register anything. Reading an NFC tag needs hardware a browser does not have, so the app is the only surface that can bind a tag to a record.

Once an item exists, everything else — editing, photographs, grading details, visibility, history — can be done here.

That the tag is the original chip bound to this record, and that the record's identifying details have not been quietly rewritten since registration. It is a durable, timestamped record of what an owner said about an item, and when.

It does not prove the object the tag is attached to is authentic. We do not inspect items, verify that they are genuine, or appraise them. No cryptography can do that — it takes a human expert examining the item.

Trust indicators describe how a record was created — whether a physical tag was scanned, for example — not whether the item itself is real. We keep those two claims separate on every passport, deliberately. Always do your own due diligence before buying.

Anyone with the link or the tag can open a passport's public page, unless you set that item to private. Setting it private withdraws the link — someone physically tapping the tag can still verify it, because that is the entire point of the tag.

Item details and the photo are deliberately public; that is what makes an item checkable by a buyer. Your estimated value, purchase price, storage location, condition notes and personal notes are never public, at any setting, and neither is your email or account identifier. The tag's serial number is only ever shown partly masked. There is no switch that exposes any of it.

The Privacy Policy has a table showing exactly which fields fall on each side of that line.

Only after deleting it permanently. An ordinary delete moves the item to a 30-day recycle bin and keeps the tag reserved — otherwise someone could register that tag to a new passport while the old one is still restorable, and two records would claim one physical object.

"Delete permanently" is one click away inside the bin, and releases the tag immediately.

Not today. No passport has been minted, and the integrity anchor on each record is a cryptographic fingerprint held by us, not a blockchain transaction.

Tokens are in development. Where older copy on our site says otherwise, it is ahead of what is built and we are correcting it.

No. Estimated value is a number you enter yourself. Nothing on the platform appraises items, matches them to market prices, or revalues a collection — and it is private either way.

Not yet. Ownership transfer is in development. Today, handing an item on means the seller permanently deletes their passport to release the tag, and the buyer registers it themselves — which does not carry the history across.
